Fragrance Guide

Choosing a fragrance can be tricky, as they vary in strength and longevity. Use our guide to help you choose the best one for your needs:

Ladies

Perfume/parfum is the strongest (and most expensive!) concentration. While it’s a pricey option, perfume is the most enduring of all the fragrance formulations.

Eau de parfum is more reasonably priced than perfume, but it is also very long lasting.

Eau de toilette is the most popular choice, probably due to its affordability and good lasting power.

Eau de cologne is quite light and is ideal if you prefer just a hint of scent.

Eau Fraîche is the lightest formulation and is favoured in the summer.

Men

Eau de toilette is the strongest concentration available to men. As with the ladies’ version, it has good lasting power.

Aftershave is weaker than eau de toilette but its advantage is that it can be used on the face.

Fragrance FAQs

How should I store my fragrances?

Keep your fragrances in a cool, dark place. They can- and do- go off, especially when exposed to sunlight. If you look after your fragrances, they should last for several years.

How should I apply my fragrance?

There are many different ways. Some people like to create a ‘cloud’ of scent in which to walk through, giving them a light, overall coverage. Others like to spray their clothing or hair (the latter of which one should do sparingly, as fragrance can dry hair out). Most people spray their pulse points, usually their necks and wrists. Make sure you don’t ‘spray and rub’! If you spray your fragrance on your wrists then rub them together, the fragrance molecules break down and damage the scent. Simply spray and wait for it to take effect.

How can I make my fragrance last longer?

If you use a matching body lotion before you apply your fragrance, it should last longer. Many fragrances have matching shower gels and deodorants too!

Why don’t fragrances smell the same on everyone?

One person’s ‘ahh’ is another person’s ‘argh’! This is all down to science and our bodies’ chemical balances.
